WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS
Google Analytics (GA4) in plain English.
Google Analytics is a free tool that tracks what happens on your website. Who visits, where they came from, what pages they look at, how long they stay, and whether they did anything useful — like called your number or filled out a form.
The current version is called GA4. If someone set up your analytics a few years ago and never updated it, you might be running old data on an outdated platform. Worth checking.
Most business owners have it installed but have never actually looked at it. If that's you — you're not alone, and it's fixable.
THINK OF IT LIKE THIS
"It's a security camera for your website. You can see who came in, what they looked at, and whether they left without doing anything. Without it, you're just hoping your website is working."
WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH IT
Numbers that actually mean something.
Here's what Google Analytics actually does — and why it matters for your business.
Do you actually need to look at this?
If you're spending any money on marketing — ads, SEO, a website — you need to know whether that money is doing anything. Google Analytics is how you find out.
You don't need to become a data analyst. You need to understand about 5 key numbers. We'll show you which ones.
✓ You're spending money on marketing and don't know what's working
✓ You want to know if people are actually calling from your website
✓ Your web traffic has changed and you don't know why
✓ You recently redesigned your website and want to see the impact
✓ You want to make smarter decisions instead of guessing
The questions everyone actually asks.
REAL TALK
No jargon. No runaround. Just the truth.
What's the difference between GA4 and
the old Google Analytics (UA)?
The old version (Universal Analytics) was turned off in 2023. If you're not on GA4, you have no data at all. GA4 tracks things differently — it's event-based, which is more flexible but also more confusing to set up correctly.
I have it installed. Am I good?
Installed doesn't mean configured. A lot of sites have the code on the page but aren't tracking anything meaningful. No goals set up, no conversion tracking, no call tracking. You're collecting data but none of it is telling you anything useful.
What numbers should I actually care about?
For a home service business? New users, traffic source, contact page visits, and goal completions. Everything else is interesting but secondary. Don't let the volume of data distract you from what matters.
Can I connect it to my Google Ads?
Yes — and you absolutely should. Linking GA4 to Google Ads lets you see which campaigns drive actual leads, not just clicks. Clicks that don't convert are expensive. This connection helps you stop paying for them.

Learn it yourself or hand it off.
