GOOGLE TOOLS EXPLAINED

Your Google Business Profile is your digital storefront.

Before anyone visits your website, calls your number, or reads a single review — they see your Google Business Profile. And most of them make up their mind right there.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS

Google Business Profile in plain English.

Google Business Profile is the free listing that shows up when someone searches for your business — or businesses like yours — on Google Search and Maps.

It shows your phone number, hours, address, photos, reviews, and more. It's what people see before they ever get to your website. And Google decides how prominently to show it based on how complete and active it is.

The kicker? It's completely free. Most business owners are leaving money on the table by ignoring it.

THINK OF IT LIKE THIS

"It's your storefront window on Google Maps. If it looks empty and dusty, people keep walking. If it looks sharp, active, and full of happy customer reviews — they stop."

WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH IT

More than you think.
Less complicated than you fear.

Here's what Google Business Profile actually does — and why it matters for your business.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE

This is what customers see before they call you.

When someone searches for a plumber, HVAC company, or electrician in your area, this panel appears on the right side of Google — or front and center on mobile. Every piece of it is something you control.

Why this matters more than most people realize.

Most people searching for a plumber, HVAC tech, or electrician never scroll past the Map Pack — that little box of 3 businesses that shows up at the top of local searches.

Your Google Business Profile is what gets you in that box. Or keeps you out of it.

You want to show up in local searches without paying for ads
✓ You want more reviews — and to actually respond to them
✓ You haven't touched your profile in months (or ever)
✓ You want customers to find your correct hours and phone number
✓ You want to outrank competitors who have worse service

The questions everyone actually asks.

REAL TALK

No jargon. No runaround. Just the truth.

Is Google Business Profile really free?

Yes. 100%. Google doesn't charge you to have a listing or to optimize it. The only time money comes in is if you run ads through it — and that's optional. Not having a complete, active profile is just leaving free visibility on the table.

Why does my competitor rank higher than me?

Usually because they have more reviews, fresher activity, and a more complete profile. Not because they're better at their job. Google can't tell who does better work — it can only measure signals like reviews, photos, and engagement. That's a solvable problem.

Can I control what shows up on my profile?

Mostly yes. You control your description, photos, hours, services, and posts. You can't control what customers say in reviews — but you can respond to every single one, which matters more than you'd think.

What's a Google Post and do I really need to do them?

A Google Post is a short update — like a social media post — that appears on your profile. They expire after 7 days. Posting regularly tells Google your business is active, which helps your ranking. Even one post a week makes a difference.
